I m not anti-tobacco wala and i am a daily consumer of cigarette, tobacco and pan or to put it simply whatever my parents and elders told not to do..
Some times i just sit and think that i should quit ; i feel afraid thinking of cancer, not cancer but the treatment of cancer actually my mother has been a cancer victim and was operated twice and all that chemotherapy and radiation stuff.
But somehow when i am in the actual process of consuming tobacco the thought of cancer never comes to the mind. I think having the picture of cancer affected people on cigarette and tobacco product will trigger a fear factor. Just having a hardly readable statutory warning certainly doesn’t help and Neither the erstwhile chutiya loda health minister ambumani’s idea of banning of smoking scenes from films.
I think its a good idea and will slowly eradicate tobacco usage in our society. All the smokers might have already come to the realisation that the glorious days of smoking when you could smoke in theaters, trains, hospitals, buses or any imaginable place is over, the days when smoking was more of a style statement remember the scene from jo jeeta wohi sikander, when the three guys stop at a galla and aamir tells to bring cigarette for style maaring. The days of paan had got over a lot earlier, the paan khaye sayya aamar (beautiful song han) or the khaike paan banaras waala.. society changes and quiet fast. But the memories of the past are always beautiful..
P.S. By the way in the song “laaga chunari mein daag” which daag the poet talks about is it the daag of blood after heroine loses her virginity.. i guess so. anyway nice song..
