Krishna The white tiger

with 11 comments

Recently as i was reading arvind adiga’s The white tiger, i realised i know a white tiger, who is similar to balram halwai and the same moment i decided to do a post on him, his name is krishna.
Krishna was born in some village in Andhra pradesh, he used to say every one in his village is a dhobi, i asked so everyone in your village just wash clothes, where do they get so many clothes to wash. He would say its our caste. He was in 7th class when he was sent to his father who was working as a dhobi in mumbai. Lateron they moved to vadodara.
Currently krishna has a makeshift tent outside our society, and he does ironing along with his wife and an assistant naturally called chotu. Krishna’s tent is a happening place. Anyone who has to do timepass heads straight to his tent. Krishna has a very active mouth and an ear, from morning to evening many people drop by to have a chat. and this would include stories, news, rumours, who is getting rich and how, sex and other topics. We generally go there in the evening and you will already find group of people there talking about various thing, its quiet interesting often hilarious things, and gossips. He would talk a lot about his village, he would begin with “hamare distric mein” or “humare andhra mein” or humare hydrebad mein. He hasnt got the original story telling genes but his stories are quiet interesting. He would talk about various affairs he had with different kaamvaalis, about prostitutes, he would tell all stories in explicit details. he would boast that he might have fucked around 500 women.
He earns around 30000 per month, he gives money on interest, he runs a vc. He had suffered huge losses in stock markets, when he was about to enter stock market i told him not to do things which one doesn’t understand, but he was too eager to be rich. This guy is different his relatives and all are dhobis in vadodara itself, but krishna is ahead of them, and is always ready to take risks learn new things. Within 3 months he had invested around 8 lacks of his savings which after the stock crash left him with 3 lacks.. But he has learnt a lot, he earned knowledge though he lost money. He now knows everything about the markets, may be that knowledge will come to use at some other point in time.
As i said he left school after 7th but interestingly he can read gujarati, hindi, and english. He only learnt telegu in school but he can read and write in these languages too. I was amused at this and asked how did he learn.. He said he just learnt. By reading small bits he started reading more, and because of mobile he learnt english too. This thing always amuses me, and makes me think about our education system. Are we missing out on a system with which people can learn learn to read and write with ease, a unknown technique.
Krishna had always been looking for the right opportunity he invested in many business but things never work, he always would say i m tired of this standing whole day and ironing, i need to find some business where i can sit and earn. And now he has found his business, the business that will take him to new heights – Bootlegging. Since last 4 months krishna has got into the liquor business on part time basis main business still being ironing. He is currently selling around 10 bottles a day making him a cool profit of 1000rs. There is risk but one has to take risk if one wants to achieve a dream. Its good for us too, since we being regular customer our bottles are delivered where ever required at whatever time. Where else in the world you can get bottles delivered at your home. Its like ordering pizza.
I see krishna as a white tiger, a tiger on prowl, to acheive his dreams. He also recently bought a house worth 18 lacks, he is just 30 years and all this has been achieved by relentless hard work, ironing innumerable clothes.. In our group the person who is going to make it big is this krishna, the white tiger.

  4. This was a very interesting post. Also, I now better understand what you meant by our education system not doing justice to such people, though I've never been a fan of this system, anyway. Now this inspires me to read 'The white tiger'.TC.
