A trip to mount abu

with 11 comments

(R1’s car)

R1 bought a car last month, so we decided a trip has to be done. We zeroed on mount abu as its around 350 km from here, so the journey would be short and the expenses would be bearable. Also R1 had installed a CNG kit, and its so sasta with CNG, almost it costs appx. 1/4th compared to petrol. I and R1 were drinking on last thursday and we made the plan for the next day. Early next day we called R2 and informed, he said he would be free by noon. He was pawning his bike, we needed another 2 people so the overall cost could be shared. R1 started the work of calling, and he called almost 100 people. Those who had money were busy and those who were free didnt have money, and those who were free and had money were married.

Atlast we got 2 brothers, rng and vnl. We took off from baroda by 4 or 5 pm, reached abu road by 9pm. Had to take a some stops in between as gas has to be refilled frequently. We stayed at talhati that night didnt go up to the mount. Liquor shops had been closed by then, asked the hotel ppl to arrange for it, it cost 850rs for an full mc dowells whiskey and 2 quarters of officers choice. We can get that much stuff for 450 back in gujarat. And surprisingly that was a “for sale in chandigarh stuff” the same that we get back in gujarat. We came here to drink sasta daru and we had to pay a premium for it.

Next day at around 10 we left for the mountain top, we had heard stories about bitter cold in minus, but when we reached, there wasnt much cold it was as normal as in gujarat. We walked around some liquor stores, and we found all the stuffs to be extremely costly way above their MRP. And most of the stuffs were smuggled haryana and chandigarh stuff. Unlike most other states there werent any govt. liquor shops. All were private and they charged as per their wish. This is a fine example of market dynamics, u go to kerala and u can find stuff from goa, in guj and rajashtan u get stuff of haryana and chandigarh, earlier in gujarat we used to get rajasthani stuff but since the prices were increased recently our stuff now comes from haryana, chandigarh, daman, and sometimes even from goa and karnataka.

(Things that matter)

Some guy told us about  nearby wildlife sanctuary, so we filled our stuff, a crate of beer and 2 bottles of vodka the green apple flavour wala (we dont get these back in guj, we get only whiskey). We reached in the sanctuary and its a nice thick jungle. We befriended with the chaukidar and he found us a good place to drink.

(chaukidar in front, R2 in center, me at the end)

Nice place it was, with water and thick bamboo jungle, we roamed a lot thru the jungles after finishing our drink. The chaukidar invited us for a night camp, and it was decided that we would come late in night with chicken and he would roast the chicken for us.

After that we went for a drive and we stopped at a place and climbed a near by hillock and were drinking beer, 2 police people came and called us down, they were planning for a tod pani, R1 the master salesman talked with them and offered them 2 beers which were left, they asked us to follow them to a khopcha where they can be handed over the beer secretly, they asked us to follow them, we followed them slowly and as soon as there was some space for a turn we turned and sped away, that was super fun to make chutiya of a police wala. We found a hotel for us and started the drinking session again along with tapni, now it was really cold.

(getting some heat, alcohol wasnt enuf)

But at night when we called the chaukidar, he had to go for some work with his sahab, so that plan got cancelled. I slept early and others did tightgiri thoroghtout the night, vnl was rolling on the road.

Next day after vacating our hotel, we bought a wine (9 hills), a whiskey (antiquity) some breezers and beers, and went off to some nearby jungle. Found a good place, started gambling along with drinking. After that we went to this place called honeymoon point, nice place nice view.

(R1 making a peg, R2 on the side)
(a view from honey moon point)

R1 is a big showoff, the wine had got over so he filled it with water, it had a nice bottle. The whole Mount abu is filled with only gujarati tourists, all the amdavadis go there, as its just 150 km from there for drinking, at this time a tight gujarati (gujaratis get drunk very easily) who was chipking with us, i always enjoy watching tight people. Now R1 gave him the bottle of water filled wine bottle, asking him to taste. He took a few gulps and was all praise for it, he became very happy and was telling all his friends that he had drank videshi wine. R1 gave him big bundles about the wine costing 500$ and all.

(Rules that doesnt matter)

After that we headed back home, bought some beer for us, and R2 bought 2 quarters of rum (he is a rum lover) for our ride back. R2 and Rng got full tight and the ride back was annoying, R1 was loosing his temper all the while, as he was worried about being caught on the check post. There wasnt much checking and we entered gujarat, we took a hold for a night in mehsana where r1’s brother lives, we drank again, his brother has arranged for chicken and 2 bottles of derby. Rng and vnl drank a lot, i, R1 and R2 couldnt drink much, We ate and slept and next morning headed back to baroda.

So the trip was average, not much adventure as expected, but neither too bad.

Yesterday was uttarayan was average, noting new. anyway these festivals never work for me. Flew some kites, drank.  me and R1 were together, others were at their place. Today is vasi uttrayan. already feeling bored. Lot of pending work to be completed.

P.S. The dates in pictures are different, as the camera hadnt been set earlier, its only later tht the dates were set.

  11. India is the perfect tourist destination when it comes to visiting one of its many picturesque hill stations. Famous hill stations in India like Srinagar, Gulmarg and Sonmarg in Jammu & Kashmir, Shimla and Manali in Himachal Pradesh, Mussoorie, Nainital, Dehradun and Kausani in Uttarakhand, Mount Abu in Rajasthan, Darjeeling, Gangtok and Kalimpong in East of India, and Munnar, Ooty and Kodaikanal in South of India are amongst the loveliest hill stations frequently visited by tourists for activities like relaxing, trekking and spending quality time with the family and friends.
