Suicide rates and an emotionless future

with 24 comments

The recent data released by National Crimes Records Bureau for the year 2008 shows LOVE to be one of the highest killer in India. Now you believe what i have always said, k love is the most dangerous kind of addiction. A total of 3774 suicides were commited due to love, 1912 females compared to 1862 not much significant difference. And as i said suicides due to drug addiction stands at 2730. Dekha drug usage is more safer than love. So there is no point in banning drugs. Surprisingly poverty related deaths are just 3006 with all the news about farmers dying due to economic hardships are just over rated i guess.

So out of the three basic mayas love, nasha and paisa. Love here is the most dangerous kind. Well you cant get these figures in west, love/passion related suicides will be significantly lower there. These figures are very india specific. Have to do a lot with the lower education and orthodox society. When the society becomes more open the rates will fall. Indians take love more seriously i guess, the westerners have grown over it, so will we with time.

I saw this sci-fi movie once, set in future, those people used to take this daily injection to control their emotions. And those injections were compulsory, every one taking the injection becomes devoid of any emotions basically of love, hatred, jealousy and stuff. Their Idea was to make a war free world. So they come up with that solutions to be devoid of all human emotions.

I believe we are still an evolving creature and are in constant state of evolution. This emotions have helped us  a  lot to get organised and be together. Basically we have come together thou there are still some issues with war and hatred, but in future those we will over come. And slowly we will become devoid of emotions, in future we will grow over this emotions, we wont be able to laugh or smile or cry, we will become too practical. We will loose all our sentiments, we wont be stupid enuf to laugh on a joke. Jokes wont trigger laughter, nor will beauty trigger a smile. I see that people dont laugh like they used to, I remember people used to laugh a lot watching movies, you seen the kind of comedy they used to have in old movies every one used to laugh a lot watching things that wont make us laugh any longer. Slowly there wont be any joke in the world that wud make us laugh.

  1. Nice rational take on the human emotion… In schooldays I read in my hinditext book story by Mahadevi Vera (if I m not wrong about the author) " the root cause of every problem around us is the power to speak, worda that comes out of our mouth make someone feel our love or hatred" These words seem very true to me and what ur saying, I suppose is on the same breath.

  2. Ah! Innnteresting! As always, you have made a valid point. But I so wanna be positive. You are right. My parent's swear over certain old Hindi films (comedy), that do not make me laugh. But then again, I do laugh. But more at the sarcastic cynical kinda comedy. Not the in your face slap stick kind. Maybe it is a generation thing? Maybe hope is not all lost? And yes. It is always a good thing to have one's emotions somewhat in control.PS: Did not know that love caused more deaths than poverty!!!PS again: Was the sci fi movie The Matrix? Great post! Made me ramble. πŸ™‚

  4. @ankesh i m not saying anything specific here, just some mixed thoughts…I havent heard about that author but to an extent that certainly true.. The more we speak the more trouble we get into.. thts something that i have realised long time before… And i follow that, i dont talk much.. but i m always glad to listen..@Ashley..yeh thts right, the generation thing is basically an evolutionary thing in social context.. no that wasnt matrix, some other movie name of which i cant recall..@yemil.. glad to know u liked..

  5. On the point of making oneself devoid of all human emotions with the use of an injection, I wonder what other problems it would lead to. With love, hatred, greed out of the way, the only possibility I see war for supremacy and power. I think solution to one problem opens the floodgates for a myriad of others.Other than quite a nice analysis. I know you have used sarcasm here to project a bigger problem. No matter how people die, death still bring sorrow and no death is cheap. Everyone means a world to someone, if not to many.

  6. @vitthal.. i think love, greed and hatred are the basic emotions on which all other emotions get built.. its always the greed or love for/of power that creates probs… as i said they mainly made ppl emotionless, which includes all other emotions too…

  10. This was much needed info. These days I was also thinking sort of similar thoughts about love. Think not drugs, not alcohol, the worst and fatalest addiction humans are prone to is love! It's a pleasant co-incidence that you wrote this post now!!

  15. it is a very complicated situation , earlier couples found out issue post marriage and then there was a hang till death situation, But today , we have choices. with television , sex, good looks, hormones, all these things play too many factors while you are in a relationship. And India is becoming a corporate incorporation with managers and wife both demanding 100 % commitment. Men cannot live up to itFor men, it is the other way around, the sex ratio is so bad, and the over fed Indian men who take in doses of Western 3x movies, cannot control his feelings, is constantly in search , He is a hunter as you know. For senior men, they demand respect, and they dont get any, coz the situation has turned around in the last century, . It is just like the Indian cricket team. You may enter it after a herculean struggle, but the real fight begins after you have entered it

  19. Dear Uncommon sense! Love is my fav topic so I cudnt resist to comment ova here – I do no agree wd u on following things – *drug usage is more safer than love ( Deaths from taking drugs are simply less coz less people take drugs than people do love πŸ™‚ ) *So out of the three basic mayas love, nasha and paisa.( I dont think Love is a maya – Love is in fact God who is antagonist of Maya. πŸ™‚ )*and last thing that the future picture which you have given , may be true coz one never knows , but still what I feel is – we will never be completely devoid of emotions , and still if that thing comes there is hell lot of time in that. Brave New World will hardly come but if it comes there will be one person who would be having uncomfortable feelings and the germs of passion :).The article as well as image is really interesting :)tc!

  20. @somya.. well u certainly have a valid point there..but if drug were legal, there cud have been safer ways and alternatives.. that wud increase drug usage but fatalities would be less..in that case still love wud cause more fatality..

  21. lol … there u go…!! but again I think even if drug were legal , less people would take it… less people are interested in that than people in love.. and so fatalities depend on dat… well wateva..!! πŸ™‚
