A day in the life of India

My experiments with Life

with 6 comments

It was black when i found, now its more of an orange bird, looks good.

It likes to watch tv, it starts crying if i switch it off.

We had this coconut tree that was struck by lightning last year, so had to cut it down since it was in a state that it could fall anytime. As the logs were being cut found a baby woodpecker in the bark. So last few days is being spent taking care of it and doing experiments with its diet. Well it eats anything that you feed it, but it will shit the same thing out in a few minutes, it doesnt eat grains or such thing, when i feed orange it gives out orange juice, same with mango. If i feed it nut then the whole nut comes out of its ass. The day i got it it shat like an egg, the shit was a big black and white turd, i thought its egg or something. Then later as i kept feeding it different things it shat in variety of forms,, still i m quiet unsure what to feed it but currently i have switched to boiled eggs, it seems to be digesting it properly. I had to give it something that is rich in protein, since its in growing state. During night its not hard to feed it, lot of moths and insects can be found easily that is attracted to light, during day time its problem, i had hunted for all kind of spiders and insects and now they are no where to be found. I also killed a dragon fly, and suddenly i felt so much guilt, there is something about dragon fly that makes me feel bad after killing it..they are kinda good insects..pata nahi..

Its leg is broken and beak was broken too, beak thing i m sure it will recover but i dont think its leg is going to mend, it is growing and nice feathers are showing up, i m told that woodpeckers have smaller brain so that it doesnt get hurt much when they are knocking up wood. Also they are strong birds, else how could it had survived such a big fall, i mean the tree fell with full impact most of the wood shattered with the fall.

Thou i m unsure what is going to happen with this story, but its going to suvive for sure, thou most young birds dont generally survive under human care.

Life is going ok, nothing special. i m not sure if i will be continuing to blog. But i have been recently active on twitter. those interested can follow me at @mayapankti  also i m thinking of reviving my story telling blog black crow white shit, might do stories there thou i find it very boring to write these days.

bye every one, just in case if its the last one.

  4. It’s really sad that this little one died :\ It’s parents didn’t come looking for it? Once in Port Blair, after a cyclone we found 3 bulbul chicks fallen off their nest. Our neighbours knew how to care for them and raised them and they eventually flew away and stayed in the same area. (They used to let them fly inside their house and gradually let them go out too). But I remember now that the parents had been looking for them and it was heartbreaking. I wonder if we had let them meet again, how much better that would have been. But at the time I used to think the bulbuls won’t touch them, might evn kill them, because human hands had touched them.

    • yeh its parents were roaming around for a few days when i used to take it outside to get some sun light, but since it was small there was no way they could take it with them, also lots of cats frequent our house, so i mostly stayed near it.. about human touch and stuff it aint right as u said in ur post.. and bulbuls they get comfortable with humans very fast, feed them for a week and they start eating out of your hand..
yes have pictures and some cute videos, will upload to youtube and leave a link at ur blog or on twitter..
